Signs This Program May Be a Good Fit for Your Teen

Parents often seek out the Teen Emotion Coaching Group in Edmonton when they notice patterns suggesting their child is struggling to manage emotions or stress, even if they are bright, capable, and doing their best. Below are common observations families share that indicate this program may be a supportive next step.

  • Currently living through a parental separation.

  • Has intense emotional reactions to small changes, transitions, or requests

  • Shuts down, withdraws, or avoids talking when emotions feel overwhelming

  • Struggles to identify, name, or explain emotions, often saying “I don’t know”

  • Has difficulty self-regulating or calming down once emotions escalate

  • Experiences frequent emotional conflict at home, especially around routines or expectations

  • Struggles with friendships, peer conflict, boundaries, or rejection sensitivity

  • Shows high self-criticism, shame, or guilt after emotional reactions

This group is not suitable if there is active psychosis, intensive self-harm risk, or if your teens currently need 1:1 support for safety and participation; in these situations, individual care will be recommended instead.

Over one structured week, teens are guided through a practical curriculum focused on understanding and managing emotions in real-life situations.

Emotional awareness

Teens learn how to name and understand emotions, build a shared language for feelings, and recognize early warning signs of overwhelm.

Friendship and boundary skills

The group supports teens in navigating peer conflict, handling tricky social situations, and setting and respecting boundaries with friends.

Healthy communication

Teens learn how to express needs and feelings more clearly and respectfully, and how to talk with parents, caregivers, and teachers when emotions are running high.
